Personal Campains & Interests:
Free Software:
I'm a Ubuntu/Debian user, I strongly believe in free software
principles and hope to make a living out of it.
I tought a free ultra-basic gnu/linux course of 7 lessons in 2006.
I strongly advice you to use free software even in your windows environment:
Windows kit: OpenOffice ,
Firefox ,
Vlc .
Patents in Europe
DRM
Open Formats:
The format in which we save information is even more important than
the software we use to do it, in the past many works valued several
men/hours were lost because of close formats.
Use the following formats for daily tasks:
Plain text: .txt
Open Document Format and is derivates: .odt .ods .odp .odg .odf
Pdf
Ogg Theora for video
Ogg Vorbis for audio
Creative Commons Music
...
Vegetarianism
I'm following a vegetarian diet, with minimum usage of eggs and milk,
for the following reasons:
Ecological impact of the meet industry: meet production
is one of the three major causes of pollution, stopping it will be
more effecive than stopping using the car.
Health
Brutality used against animals in the meet industry
If you want a fast track to became vegetarian just
watch peta.org videos, that should
do.
If you want an extremely compehensive and well documented analysis of
plant-based diets I advice reading John Robbins's books, the last being
"Healthy at 100".
Atheism
I'm an atheist, I strongly disapprove every theism (except FSM but maybe it's just because I'm italian).
Italy
Italy is a beautiful country, full of opportunity, charming and welcoming people, and interseting things to see: if you are a tourist that live in civilized country.
School books
In Italy each family spends several hundreds of euros every year buying
school books for their children, from elementary to high school. Who
has more than a child easily notice that each couple of years a new
version of each subject's book is released with minor changes
(very often only the cover and the page numbers) forcing families to
buy twice the same thing. Considering the base knoledge necessary to
write these kind of books, teachers could, with little effort, write
free (Creative Commons or whatever other free licence) material that
would be on-line readable and printable at ultra-low cost by any
publishing company (or by the students themself).
Moreover some teachers already prefer to prepare few photocopies for
each lesson instead of following the book teaching stucture to have
more flexibility and up to date material.
libriaperti.org
Questo progetto sembra risolvere esattamente il problema:
- libri per scopo didattico
- licenza CC o GFDL
- scritti in LaTeX
per ora l'autore sta cercando partecipanti e traduttori per dei testi
di fisica in inglese giĆ realizzati.
Army
Italy, like many other countries, own and mantain a military force
that costs fantazillions of euros each year without even merely use
it. Moreover some of this equipment (like the aircraft carrier
Garibaldi) can't even be used for civil purpose in combination with
Pretezione Civile. I think the most obvious choice is to demilitarize
almost completely Italy (we could leave defence forces as a placebo
for paranoids) and redirect those investment in University reseach or
any other useful activity.
Recycled Paper
I only recently realized that we use regular paper in toilet...what a shame.
